How You Can Celebrate #WorldPoetryDay

Today is World Poetry Day, as declared by the UN in 1999 and currently celebrated in the United States and Canada – all for the reason to promote and appreciate poetry. In honor of this beautiful day, I wanted to share with you my favorite poets, poetry books, and how you can participate or appreciate your local poetry!

My Top 5 Favorite Poets

  1. Emily Dickinson
  2. Anne Bradstreet
  3. Sappho
  4. Francesca Lia Block
  5. Edna St. Vincent Millay

My Top 10 Favorite Poetry Books

Participate and Appreciate Your Local Poetry

  1. Run a Google search for local readings and other literary events – with options such as the Poets & Writers app and Power Poetry, you will be able to find local events for your participation or appreciation.
  2. Check out the local college campus and see if their literature department is hosting any events.
  3. Check out the local coffee shops or bookstores to see if they are hosting any literary events.
  4. Write a poem and share it with your friends, family, or social networking platforms!

In honor of World Poetry Day, I would also like to share the link to my own chapbook, Tableau Vivant (Dancing Girl Press, 2015).

Who are you favorite poets? Do you have any favorite poetry books? How do you take time to involve poetry in your life?

Happy #WorldPoetryDay!
